Does it work with the iPhone Duo?

MagSafe chargers, wallets, car mounts, Apple Pencil, screen protectors, power banks and more: a straight answer for each, why, and what to use instead. Built from Apple’s iPhone Duo specs and launch coverage by Duo Case Co, the iPhone Duo-only accessory brand.

  • Apple’s tech specs list MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W, plus a magnet array and alignment magnet.
  • The magnets sit on one half of the phone, so it charges folded, or open and lying flat.
  • Through a case, the charger only stays aligned if the case has magnets built in. A case without magnets weakens the hold.

The fix: Use a magnetic case so the charger snaps on through it, and Apple’s recommended USB-C adapter for the full 25W.

  • Qi2 chargers use the same magnetic alignment as MagSafe, so they snap on.
  • Speed depends on the charger: a Qi2 25W charger can reach 25W, while older 15W Qi2 chargers top out lower.
  • Like MagSafe, a case needs magnets for the charger to hold through it.

The fix: Check the charger’s listed wattage, and pair it with a magnetic case.

  • A non-magnetic Qi pad has nothing to hold the phone in place, so it can slide off the coil.
  • Older Qi charging is much slower than MagSafe or Qi2 on recent iPhones.
  • A thick or metal-backed case can stop it charging altogether.

The fix: Fine overnight. For daily charging, a magnetic Qi2 or MagSafe charger is faster and lines itself up.

  • The iPhone Duo has a USB-C port.
  • Apple says it charges to about 50% in 20 minutes with a 60W or higher USB-C adapter.
  • Any USB-C cable works; a lower-wattage adapter just charges more slowly.

The fix: Use a 60W-capable USB-C adapter for the fastest top-ups.

All iPhone Duo accessories →
  • Lightning cables, docks and wired EarPods from older iPhones don’t fit the USB-C port.
  • Apple sells a USB-C to Lightning adapter for accessories you want to keep.

The fix: Switch to USB-C cables, or use Apple’s USB-C to Lightning adapter for the odd accessory.

Setup guide →
  • The folded Duo is only 117.8 mm tall, and the pack has to sit below the cameras. Packs sized for taller iPhones can hang off the bottom.
  • At 254 g, the Duo plus a battery pack is a heavy stack; strong magnets matter.
  • Don’t use one with the phone open: one half would hang off the hinge.

The fix: Pick a compact pack, use a magnetic case, and charge folded. A small USB-C power bank works with any case.

  • The folded Duo is 84.1 mm wide and 117.8 mm tall. A bank card is 85.6 mm wide, wider than the phone.
  • Apple’s FineWoven MagSafe Wallet was observed hanging below the Duo in launch hands-on coverage.
  • Apple hasn’t announced a MagSafe wallet for the Duo.

The fix: Use a wallet designed around the Duo’s back: a magnetic wallet case, or a detachable wallet sized for it.

  • A wallet holding cards sideways is wider than the 84.1 mm folded Duo before you add any material.
  • Some brands now sell Duo-specific wallets; for example, Frenchie lists a Speed Wallet Duo. Standard models weren’t designed for it.
  • Measure yours and test it on the folded phone before you rely on it.

The fix: Our wallet guide has a fit checker: enter your wallet’s size and see if it fits.

  • The Duo weighs 254 g, more than most iPhones, so weak magnetic mounts can let it drop over bumps.
  • Mount it folded. Open, one half hangs off the hinge with nothing holding it.
  • Without a magnetic case, the case blocks the magnets and the hold is too weak.

The fix: Use a magnetic case and a mount rated for heavy phones, or a gripping mount that doesn’t need magnets.

  • A gripping mount holds the phone by its sides, so it works with any case, magnetic or not.
  • Folded, the Duo is 84.1 mm wide (plus your case). Check the mount’s grip range.
  • Never mount it open while driving.

The fix: Pick a mount listed for foldables or wide phones.

  • A magnetic stand holds the folded Duo like any iPhone.
  • Open on a magnetic stand, only one half is held and the other hangs off the hinge. Not recommended.
  • A case with a kickstand stands the phone up anywhere, no stand needed.

The fix: Use it folded on a magnetic stand, or get a case with a built-in stand.

  • MagSafe grips attach to the folded phone through a magnetic case.
  • Stick-on grips and rings belong on a case, not on the Duo’s back, and must not block it folding flat.
  • A case with a built-in ring gives you a grip and a stand without anything stuck on.

The fix: Get a ring stand case: grip, stand and car-mount plate in one.

Best ring stand cases →
  • The outer screen is 5.4 inches and shaped for the Duo.
  • The inner screen folds, so a rigid glass protector can’t go on it at all.

The fix: Use protectors made for the Duo: tempered glass is fine on the outer screen, flexible film only on the inner one.

  • Glass can’t bend, so it would crack or stop the phone folding.
  • The inner screen already has a factory-fitted layer from Apple. Peeling it can damage the display.
  • A flexible film on top of that layer is the safe way to add protection.

The fix: Use a flexible film made for the Duo’s inner screen, on top of the factory layer.

  • The Duo’s size, camera, hinge and fold don’t match any other iPhone or foldable.
  • A Duo case also has to let the phone fold and, ideally, protect the hinge, which becomes an outer edge.

The fix: Choose a case made only for the Duo. Our case finder matches one to how you use your phone in 60 seconds.

Hinge protection explained →
  • Apple says only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) will work, on both the inner and outer screens.
  • At 155 mm long, it’s longer than the 117.8 mm folded Duo, so it can’t fit inside a case slot.
  • The Duo has nowhere for a Pencil to attach magnetically.

The fix: Until it’s supported, a capacitive stylus works today. Our stylus cases include one and a slot to carry it.

  • The Pencil Pro and 2nd generation attach and charge magnetically on iPads; the Duo has no place to do that.
  • Apple has only announced support for the Apple Pencil (USB-C).

The fix: If you want a stylus now, a capacitive one works on day one.

  • A capacitive stylus works like a fingertip on both screens.
  • It’s less precise than an Apple Pencil, with no tilt or palm rejection, but fine for notes, tapping and signing.

The fix: Get a case with a pen slot so the stylus stays with the phone.

Best stylus and pen cases →
  • There is no physical SIM tray on the Duo, in any country.
  • Most carriers can transfer your number to eSIM during setup.

The fix: Check with your carrier before you switch, especially if you’re moving from another phone brand.

Setup guide: day one →
  • The Duo runs iOS 27, so current Apple Watch and AirPods models pair as usual.
  • One charger can top up the phone, watch and earbuds overnight.

The fix: A 3-in-1 or 5-in-1 station charges all three in one spot.

All iPhone Duo accessories →
  • Half-folded, the Duo can stand on a table like a small laptop.
  • Folded, it needs a stand: a case kickstand or ring keeps it upright in landscape.

The fix: A kickstand or ring case means you always have a stand.
