How MagSafe works on the iPhone Duo
- Charging: up to 25W with MagSafe, and 25W with Qi2 chargers from other brands. Apple says a MagSafe Charger with a 35W or higher adapter reaches about 50% in around 30 minutes. A USB-C cable is still faster, at about 50% in 20 minutes.
- Magnets: Apple lists a magnet array, an alignment magnet and accessory-identification NFC, so MagSafe accessories snap into place.
- Where they sit: on the back of one half, which is the back of the phone when it’s folded. That’s why the Duo behaves like a normal MagSafe iPhone when folded, and differently when open.
- Size: folded, the back is 84.1 × 117.8 mm, wider and shorter than a regular iPhone. Most MagSafe accessories were designed for tall, narrow phones, so it’s worth checking fit (tool below).

MagSafe tips for a foldable
- Charge folded, or open and flat. Folded is the safest. Open on a flat charger works, but don’t leave the open phone propped on a stand by one half.
- Fold rings and kickstands flat before you put the phone on a charger or wallet, so the magnets meet flush.
- Take the wallet off to charge. Apple advises against putting cards between an iPhone and a MagSafe charger.
- Skip metal mount plates. A magnetic case already has the ring. An extra plate can block charging.
- Power banks get warm. Take the phone off a hot bank and out of direct sun. Heat is what slows wireless charging.
- Clear case? Pick the magnetic version. Some clear cases come with or without magnets. Look for “Magnetic” in the option name.
