Every iPhone Duo case on sale today, ours included, was made from Apple’s published dimensions, not from the phone itself. The Duo reaches stores on 23 October.
On launch day we’ll fit every one of our 36 cases on a retail iPhone Duo, measure it, and publish the results here. That includes the cases that fail. This page explains exactly what we measure and why, so you can hold us to it.
No iPhone Duo case can claim a tested fit until the phone ships on 23 October. We’ll test all 36 of ours on a retail Duo in launch week, with 12 checks per case, and publish every result, including failures. Until then, every case comes with free returns for 30 days. Get the results by email.
Why test on a real iPhone Duo?
Case makers design from CAD drawings and published dimensions: 84.1 × 117.8 × 11.3 mm folded, 254 g. That gets close. On a regular phone, close is fine. On a foldable it isn’t: a case 0.3 mm off can stop the phone closing fully, press on the hinge at 180°, or cover the Touch ID button just enough to make it miss. None of that shows up in a drawing. It only shows on the phone.
Most stores will keep selling on drawings. We’d rather measure, publish, and fix what’s wrong.
The 12 checks, and why each matters on a foldable
| Check | How we measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Case weight | Grams added to a 254 g phone, on a 0.1 g scale. | The Duo is already heavier than any other iPhone. Every gram shows in one hand. |
| 2. Folded thickness | Thickest point with the case on, to 0.01 mm. | Folded, the Duo is a thick, short phone; this decides how it pockets. |
| 3. Folded width | Hinge to opposite edge with the case on. | The spine side gets wider with a hinge cover. This shows by how much. |
| 4. Camera lip | How far the rim stands above the highest lens. | A rim below the lens means the lens touches the table. |
| 5. Closes fully | Does it shut flat like the bare phone, and how big is any gap? | A case that props the halves apart lets grit reach the inner screen. |
| 6. Opens flat | Does it still open to 180°? | A case that stops short puts stress on the hinge and the fold. |
| 7. Hinge coverage | Spine covered when closed and when open. | The part most cases skip. We check the listing claim on the phone. |
| 8. Touch ID | Unlock attempts out of 10, with the case on. | Touch ID lives in the side button. A bad cutout makes it fail. |
| 9. Buttons | Press feel, 1–5, compared with the bare phone. | Stiff buttons are the #1 complaint about cases. |
| 10. MagSafe hold | Peak pull-off force from a MagSafe charger, averaged over 3 pulls. | This tells you whether a car mount will hold a 254 g phone. |
| 11. Wireless charging | Charges through the case? Optional: % gained in 30 minutes. | Magnets that align but block charging are useless. |
| 12. Fit and install | Snug, OK or loose; how hard it is to put on and take off. | Foldable cases come off more than you think: cleaning, inner film. |
Equipment: one retail iPhone Duo, a 0.1 g scale, 0.01 mm digital calipers, a digital luggage scale and an Apple MagSafe Charger with a 35W adapter. We also measure the bare phone the same way, so every number has a baseline.

Frequently asked questions
Has anyone tested iPhone Duo cases on a real iPhone Duo?
Not before 23 October 2026, when the iPhone Duo goes on sale. Cases sold before then, including ours, were made from Apple’s published dimensions. Duo Case Co is testing all 36 of its cases on a retail iPhone Duo in launch week and publishing every result.
How do you test an iPhone Duo case?
We run 12 checks per case on one retail iPhone Duo: case weight, folded thickness and width, camera lip, whether it closes fully and opens flat, hinge coverage, Touch ID success out of 10, button feel, MagSafe pull-off force, wireless charging, and fit.
What happens if a case fails?
We publish it. A case that fails a check is fixed, relisted with corrected details, or removed from sale, and the result stays on this page.
Can I buy a case before the results are out?
Yes. Every Duo Case Co case has free worldwide shipping and 30-day returns, so if it doesn’t fit your Duo, you can send it back.
Why does Touch ID matter for an iPhone Duo case?
The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID in the side button. A case with a poorly placed or too-deep button cutout can make it fail to read your finger, so we test it 10 times per case.
Disclosure: Duo Case Co makes every case on this page.
