The iPhone Duo is the hardest iPhone to put a case on. It has two halves, a hinge, two screens that need different protection, magnets in only one half, and a folded body that closes to within about 0.9 mm of flat. A case that gets any of that wrong can stop the phone closing properly, lift the outer screen protector, or strain the hinge it was meant to protect.
This ranking covers cases from every brand selling for the Duo, including ours. We sell iPhone Duo cases, so we have done two things to make this list worth trusting: each place names why that case earned it, and three of the ten places go to other brands — Apple, PITAKA and Spigen — because in their categories they are genuinely the better choice.
- Duo Case Co Magnetic Hinge Protection Case — best overall, $49.95
- Apple iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand — best first-party, $129
- Duo Case Co Full Protection Kickstand Case — most protection, $49.95
- PITAKA Edge Case — thinnest, $59.99
- Duo Case Co Leather Wallet Case — best wallet case, $49.95
- Duo Case Co Carbon Fiber Ring Stand Case — best for video, $49.95
- Spigen Tough Armor Pro Mag Fit — best-known protective brand, $69.99
- Duo Case Co Hinge Stand Pen Case — best for Apple Pencil, $49.95
- Duo Case Co Magnetic Silicone Case — best value, $39.95
- Duo Case Co Leather Magnetic Ring Stand Case — best colour choice, $49.95
How we ranked
No case from any brand, ours included, has been tested on a retail iPhone Duo — the phone ships on 23 October. So this ranking is not based on drop tests nobody has run. It is based on things that can be checked today:
- Construction against the Duo's real risks. Does it cover the narrow closed spine? Does it leave the phone able to close flat? Does it keep the outer screen usable?
- Function. Magnets, stand, card storage, pencil storage — and whether each one is worth the bulk it adds.
- Price and availability. What it costs, and whether you can have it when the phone arrives.
- Published facts. Brands that publish dimensions and materials get credit for it.
What an iPhone Duo case must get right
Everything below follows from Apple's published numbers. These are the five tests every case in this list was judged against.
| Test | Why it matters on the Duo |
|---|---|
| 1. Closes flat | Two 5.2 mm halves make 10.4 mm; the folded phone is 11.3 mm. Only 0.9 mm is left for the hinge, so anything on the inner faces — a card sleeve, a thick lip — stops it closing. |
| 2. Covers the spine | Folded, the hinge is a narrow strip the full 117.8 mm height of the phone. A drop on it concentrates force over the mechanism. |
| 3. Leaves the outer screen usable | The 5.4″ outer screen is how you check the phone without opening it. A folio that covers it changes how you use the phone. |
| 4. Has magnets in the right half | The Duo supports MagSafe and Qi2 at 25W, with magnets in the back half only. A case without its own magnets weakens the hold; thick cases hold mounts less firmly. |
| 5. Leaves the inner screen alone | The inner screen has a replaceable nano-texture cover layer — $19 to replace with AppleCare+, as reported from Apple's service site. Nothing on a case should touch it. |

The 10 best iPhone Duo cases, in detail
Magnetic Hinge Protection CaseDuo Case Co
$49.95
- Spine: dedicated section
- Magnets: built in
- Outer screen: usable closed
- Colours: Gold, Silver, Orange, Blue and more
It passes all five tests and adds nothing you did not ask for. The spine — the part of a foldable a slab case never has to think about — gets its own section. The outer screen stays clear, so you check the phone without opening it. There is no card sleeve, ring or kickstand raising one half, so it closes flat. And the magnets are built in, so MagSafe chargers and wallets attach to the case as firmly as to the bare phone.
It also fills the gap in Apple's own line-up. Apple's $79 Case keeps the outer screen usable but does not state any hinge coverage; Apple's $129 Folio covers the hinge but hides the outer screen. This does both, for $49.95. The Gold and Silver finishes sit closer to the Duo's titanium frame than the flat black most protective cases default to.
- Spine coverage and a usable outer screen
- Closes flat: nothing on the inner faces
- Magnets built in
- $29 less than Apple's plain case
- Thicker at the spine than an ultra-thin shell
- No stand, cards or pencil slot
- Not yet fit-tested on retail hardware
iPhone Duo Folio with KickstandApple
$129 (€149)
- Spine: elastic hinge cover
- Magnets: built in
- Outer screen: covered when closed
- Colours: Taupe, Navy Blue
The best-engineered case anyone has announced for the Duo, and it would be dishonest to rank it lower. Its TechWoven cover wraps the back and front, an elastic hinge cover extends and retracts as you open and close the phone, and a kickstand props it at a range of angles and folds flush. MagSafe charging works with the stand open. Because Apple designed it alongside the phone, it is the only case on this list with guaranteed fit on day one.
It sits at #2 for three reasons: it costs $129, it has no side protection, and as a folio it covers the outer screen, so you open the cover to see a notification. Apple has published no weight or dimensions for it.
- Clever elastic hinge cover
- Kickstand that folds flush
- Guaranteed fit
- Easy Apple Store returns
- $129, the most on this list
- Hides the outer screen
- No side protection
- Two colours
Sold by Apple. If you want the hinge cover and stand without hiding the outer screen, see #8 or our Hinge Wallet Stand Case under Also worth considering.
Full Protection Kickstand Case With StylusDuo Case Co
$49.95
- Spine: full wrap
- Stand: flip-out kickstand
- Extras: stylus included
- Colours: Wine Red, Black, Dark Blue, Green and more
The most coverage on this list: full spine wrap, side protection and the back, with a kickstand and a stylus included. Compared with Apple's Folio it adds side protection and a stylus, keeps the outer screen usable, and costs $79 less.
This is the case for work sites, bags full of tools, children's hands and anyone who has broken a phone recently. On a $1,999 phone whose inner display claim costs $99 even with AppleCare+, the extra bulk is easy to justify for that kind of use. For a phone that lives on a desk, it is more than you need — choose #1.
- Full spine wrap plus sides
- Kickstand and stylus
- Outer screen stays usable
- The bulkiest case on this list
- Kickstand is fixed-axis
Edge Case for iPhone DuoPITAKA
$59.99 (600D Black/Grey)
- Thickness: about 1.2 mm (some variants 1.3 mm)
- Weight: about 22 g (some variants 19 g)
- Material: aramid fibre
- Magnets: built in, MagSafe
If thinness decides it for you, buy this. PITAKA's published figures — about 1.2 mm and 22 g — are thinner and lighter than anything we make, and on a phone that is already 11.3 mm folded, every millimetre shows. Aramid fibre has a fine woven texture that adds grip without bulk, and PITAKA includes its PitaTap camera control.
PITAKA itself positions the Edge as thin and light rather than maximum protection, and does not state spine coverage. It is the right case for careful owners who chose the Duo partly for how thin it is.
- Thinnest mainstream option
- Published dimensions and weight
- Aramid grip texture
- No stated spine coverage
- No stand, cards or pencil slot
- $20 more than our slimmest case
Sold by PITAKA. Want slim for less? #9, our Magnetic Silicone Case, is $39.95 — thicker than the Edge, with softer grip.
MagSafe Leather Wallet CaseDuo Case Co
$49.95
- Cards: on the outer panel
- Magnets: built in
- Finish: leather-finish
- Colours: Brown, Blue, Black, Green and more
Neither of Apple's Duo cases holds a single card, and the obvious fix — a MagSafe wallet — has a Duo-specific problem. Folded, the phone is only 117.8 mm tall, 13.7 mm shorter than the iPhone 12 mini, so wallets made for taller iPhones can hang over the bottom edge. This builds card storage into a case sized for the Duo instead.
The cards sit on the outside panel. That detail matters: some folio-style wallet cases adapted from other foldables put a card sleeve on an inner face, and on a phone that closes within 0.9 mm of flat, that stops it closing.
- Cards without an overhanging wallet
- Closes flat: cards outside
- Magnets still built in
- Pocket sits where a car mount attaches
- Two cards is comfortable, four is bulky
- Leather-finish, not documented full-grain
Carbon Fiber Magnetic Ring Stand CaseDuo Case Co
$49.95
- Stand: rotating ring
- Magnets: built in
- Finish: carbon-weave texture
- Colours: Gray, Black, Blue, Dark Blue and more
Open, the Duo is 164.6 mm wide and 117.8 mm tall — it opens into landscape. A fixed kickstand built for one axis may not prop it that way; a rotating ring props it in any orientation, which is exactly what video on a tray table and hands-free FaceTime need. The ring doubles as a grip on a phone that weighs 254 g.
It is also the safer alternative to mounting the phone open. With magnets in only one half, a magnetic mount should only ever hold the Duo folded; a ring stand lets you prop it open without one.
- Rotates to landscape
- Works as a grip
- Hides fingerprints
- Ring rocks more than a kickstand when tapped
- Adds height on one half
- Partial spine coverage
Tough Armor Pro Mag FitSpigen
$69.99
- Spine: dedicated hinge protector
- Magnets: MagSafe compatible
- Availability: listed with active Add to Cart
- Track record: years of protective cases
Spigen's Tough Armor Pro Mag Fit addresses the hinge directly with a dedicated protector rather than leaving the spine bare, and comes from a brand with years of review history in protective cases — something no Duo-only brand, including us, can match yet. If brand reputation matters more to you than price or range, it is a sound choice.
It ranks below our hinge case on price ($69.99 against $49.95) and range. Note that Spigen's separate Slim Armor Pro Mag Fit is listed as a preorder with an estimated 45-business-day shipping window — check the delivery estimate for the model you choose.
- Dedicated hinge protector
- Established brand
- Available now
- $20 more than #1
- Few published Duo specs
- Slim Armor variant ships much later
Sold by Spigen. Same job for less: #1, at $49.95.
Hinge Stand Pen CaseDuo Case Co
$49.95
- Spine: dedicated section
- Stand: yes
- Pencil: slot built in
- Colours: Gray, Brown, Gold, Beige and more
The Duo's inner screen supports Apple Pencil (USB-C) — one of its real advantages over the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which Apple does not list as supporting it. But neither Apple case has anywhere to keep a pencil. This one does, with a stand to prop the screen for writing and a dedicated spine section.
Writing with a pencil rather than a fingernail is also kinder to the inner screen's nano-texture cover layer.
- Pencil goes where the phone goes
- Stand for writing
- Spine coverage
- Bulkier than a plain case
- Only worth it if you use a pencil
Magnetic Silicone Protective CaseDuo Case Co
$39.95
- Spine: partial
- Magnets: built in
- Profile: our slimmest
- Colours: Blue, White, Light Blue, Purple and more
Half the price of Apple's $79 case, with the same idea: slim, magnetic, outer screen left usable. Soft-touch silicone adds grip that matte polycarbonate does not. It is also our pick for car mounts: magnetic force drops with distance, and this is the thinnest magnetic case we make, so it holds a dashboard mount most firmly.
- Lowest price on the list
- Strongest mount hold of our cases
- Soft grip
- Only partial spine coverage
- Thicker than PITAKA's Edge
- Silicone picks up lint
Leather Magnetic Ring Stand CaseDuo Case Co
$49.95
- Stand: rotating ring
- Magnets: built in
- Finish: leather-finish
- Colours: nine, including Coffee and Sierra Blue
Apple offers four colours across its entire Duo case line, and the phone itself comes in two. This single case comes in nine. It pairs a leather finish — which darkens where you hold it rather than scuffing like plastic — with the same rotating ring as #6.
- Nine colourways
- Rotating ring stand
- Ages well
- Leather-finish, not documented full-grain
- Slightly weaker car-mount hold than thin cases

What to avoid
- Galaxy Z Fold cases. The Z Fold 8 is 2.2 mm narrower, 6.1 mm taller and 1.6 mm thinner folded. Nothing transfers.
- Listings that say “foldable phones” without naming the iPhone Duo.
- Folios with card sleeves on an inner face. On a phone with 0.9 mm to spare, they stop it closing flat.
- Leather or fabric stretched across the spine as the hinge. It becomes the fold point, then creases and cracks.
- Inner-screen protectors. The inner screen already has a replaceable cover layer. A film on top lifts at the crease.
- Stick-on magnetic rings on a case without magnets. They add distance and work loose.
Pair it with an outer screen protector
No case on this list protects the outer screen's glass itself, and Apple sells no screen protector for the Duo. The 5.4″ outer screen faces your keys all day; an outer display claim costs $29 even with AppleCare+. A protector costs less than that.
3-Pack Outer Screen ProtectorDuo Case Co
$19.95 — $6.65 each
For the outer screen only. Install it before the case, then check the case lip sits beside the protector's edge rather than on it. We deliberately do not sell an inner-screen protector. With #1, the whole setup is $69.90.
Shop the 3-packWhy we're qualified to rank these
We work on one device. Every product we sell is for the iPhone Duo, so the hinge, the fold and the two screens are all we think about.
We gave three places to competitors. Apple's Folio is the best-engineered case announced. PITAKA's Edge is thinner than anything we make. Spigen has a track record we do not have yet. Saying so is what makes the other seven places worth believing.
We will measure. After 23 October, this list gets caliper-measured thickness and weight for every case we can obtain, and the ranking moves if the numbers say it should.
Free worldwide shipping on our cases to the US, EU, UK, Australia and the Middle East.
We have no affiliation with, sponsorship from or endorsement by Apple, PITAKA, Spigen or any brand named. We have no customer reviews yet because we have not shipped to customers yet, and we will not manufacture any.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best iPhone Duo case?
For most people, a case that covers the closed spine, leaves the outer screen usable, closes flat and has magnets built in. Our pick is the Duo Case Co Magnetic Hinge Protection Case at $49.95. If guaranteed fit matters most, Apple's $129 Folio with Kickstand is the best first-party option.
What is the thinnest iPhone Duo case?
Among mainstream cases, PITAKA's Edge, listed at about 1.2 mm and 22 g. Thinborne and Latercase list 0.90 mm and 1 mm cases.
What is the most protective iPhone Duo case?
The Duo Case Co Full Protection Kickstand Case, with a full spine wrap, side protection, a kickstand and a stylus, at $49.95. No brand has published drop-test results for an iPhone Duo case yet.
Is Apple's iPhone Duo case worth it?
Apple's $129 Folio with Kickstand is excellent but hides the outer screen and has no side protection. Apple's $79 Case keeps the outer screen usable but states no hinge coverage. Both have guaranteed fit, which no third-party case has yet.
Do iPhone Duo cases work with MagSafe?
Yes, if the case has its own magnets. The iPhone Duo supports MagSafe and Qi2 at up to 25W. All ten cases on this list have magnets for MagSafe.
Do Galaxy Z Fold 8 cases fit the iPhone Duo?
No. Folded, the iPhone Duo is 84.1 × 117.8 × 11.3 mm and the Z Fold 8 is 81.9 × 123.9 × 9.7 mm. No case transfers between them.
Should I get a case with hinge protection?
For most owners, yes. Folded, the hinge is a narrow strip running the full height of the phone, and a drop on it concentrates force over the mechanism. Dust is largely handled by the Duo's IP68 rating; impact is not.
Do I need a screen protector as well as a case?
For the outer screen, yes — no case protects its glass, and Apple sells no Duo screen protector. Do not add one to the inner screen, which already has a replaceable nano-texture cover layer.
Have these cases been tested on a real iPhone Duo?
Not yet. The iPhone Duo ships on 23 October 2026, so no third-party case has been fit-tested on retail hardware. We will add measured results after launch.
