First: does the iPhone Duo have built-in MagSafe?
Apple has not published confirmation of a built-in magnet array in the iPhone Duo. Pre-release signals were contradictory — some dummy units surfaced without a magnet ring while leaked cases included one. Anyone telling you today that they know how the Duo's native magnets behave is ahead of the published facts.
Here is why it matters less than it sounds. Our magnetic cases carry their own magnet arrays. The magnets are in the case, not borrowed from the phone. Magnetic wallets, mounts, stands and chargers attach to the case regardless of what the device contains natively. A case with its own array is the reason magnetic accessories worked on every Android phone that never shipped MagSafe.
What Apple's specification will determine is whether you could go case-free and still mount magnetically, and whether native alignment for wireless charging is built in. We will update this page within hours of Apple publishing the tech specs.

The geometry problem: only one panel can carry magnets
This is the structural fact that makes magnetic accessories behave differently here, and almost nothing written about MagSafe transfers across it.
A conventional iPhone has one back. Put an array in it and the phone attaches to a mount in every orientation you would reasonably use. The iPhone Duo has two panels joined by a hinge. Only the panel that forms the outer back when the device is folded can usefully carry a magnet array. That produces two very different situations:
Folded — the array is centred on a rigid back. This is fine.
Closed, the iPhone Duo behaves like a thick conventional phone. The array sits behind the 5.4″ outer display, the mass is centred over it, and magnetic mounting works the way you expect.
Unfolded — the array is on one wing. This is the problem.
Open, the device is 84.1 mm × 2 wide with the array behind only one half. Attach that to a magnetic mount and the entire 254 g — plus case — hangs from one panel, with the other panel cantilevered out to the side. Every bump, every vibration in a car, applies that leverage directly to the hinge pivot.
Hold strength, honestly
Magnetic phone attachment was designed around phones weighing roughly 170–240 g. Apple's confirmed weight for the iPhone Duo is 254 g bare, and a case adds more.

That is above the weight band magnetic mounting was built for, before you add cards to a wallet. Two consequences worth knowing before you buy:
Case thickness costs you hold strength. Magnetic force falls off sharply with distance, so every millimetre of material between the array and the accessory reduces grip. A thin silicone case holds noticeably better than a thick leather one. This is not a defect in the leather case; it is physics, and it is why our thinnest magnetic case is the one we recommend for car mounting.
Match the demand to the accessory. Not all magnetic uses stress the magnets equally:

Where the magnets conflict with everything else
The outer back panel is prime real estate on this device, and four things want to occupy it: the magnet array, a card pocket, a ring stand, and whatever you attach. They cannot all win.
- Card pocket vs car mount. A wallet case's pocket sits where the mount needs to attach. If you mount daily, buy a plain magnetic case and carry cards separately.
- Ring stand vs flat mounts. A ring adds height on the back panel, which some flat magnetic mounts will not clear. Rings and vent-clamp mounts generally coexist better than rings and slim pad mounts.
- Cards vs wireless charging. Remove cards before charging. The risk is trapped heat, not magnetism, and a leather case insulates more than plastic.
- Magnets vs old magnetic-stripe cards. Modern contactless bank cards are unaffected. Hotel key cards, some transit passes and older gift cards can be wiped — keep those away from the array.
