The card placement problem nobody warns you about
This is the single most important thing on this page, so it goes first rather than buried at the bottom.
A conventional phone is one flat slab. A card pocket on the back adds thickness and that is the end of the story. The iPhone Duo is two panels joined by a hinge, and Apple's confirmed figures make the geometry unforgiving: 5.2 mm unfolded, 11.3 mm folded, 84.1 × 117.8 mm closed footprint. Each half is roughly the thickness of two stacked credit cards.
That creates three distinct card positions, and they are not equivalent:
Cards on the outer back panel — correct
The pocket sits on the outside of the folded device, behind the 5.4″ outer display. Cards add thickness to the overall package but the two halves still meet flush. This is the only position that does not interfere with the fold, and it is where every wallet case in our range puts them.
Cards on an inner face — avoid
Some folio-style wallet cases designed for tall book foldables place a card sleeve on an inner surface. On the iPhone Duo this means the halves cannot close flat. The device rests on the card edge, which means constant low-level pressure against the flexible inner display and a permanent gap at the fold edge for dust to enter. Dust ingress at the hinge is the failure mode that ends foldables. Do not buy a case that does this, from us or anyone.
Detachable magnetic wallet — the flexible option
A separate magnetic wallet that attaches to the outer panel and comes off when you don't want it. More versatile, and it means you can go card-free for a night out without changing cases. Trade-off: another object to lose, and it occupies the same spot on the back that a car mount needs.
The thickness and weight maths
Wallet cases are a compounding-bulk decision, and on a foldable the numbers move faster than people expect. Working from Apple's confirmed specifications:

The practical read: two cards is comfortable and genuinely replaces a wallet. Four cards turns the iPhone Duo into something closer to a small hardback. A bare iPhone Duo at 254 g is already heavier than a Pro Max; a loaded wallet case puts you over 300 g, and that weight is concentrated in one hand every time you fold or unfold the device.
Our advice: buy the wallet case, then carry two cards in it and leave the rest at home. The point of this accessory is to replace the wallet in your pocket, not to relocate it.
What actually matters in an iPhone Duo wallet case
- Cards on the outer panel only. Non-negotiable, for the reasons above.
- Flush close under load. The halves must meet with cards in the pocket, not empty.
- Card retention when folded and unfolded. A foldable gets flipped constantly. A loose pocket sheds cards.
- Magnet placement clear of the card slot. Magnets and contactless cards can share a device, but not the same square centimetre.

The most common worry about wallet cases is whether magnets damage cards. The short version: modern contactless bank cards store data on a chip and an RFID antenna, neither of which is affected by the permanent magnets used in phone accessories. What magnets can affect is the old magnetic stripe — and the cards most likely to still rely on one are hotel key cards, some transit passes, older gift cards and some building access badges.
Practical rules:
- Bank cards and modern transit cards: fine in a magnetic wallet case.
- Hotel key cards: keep them out of the magnet zone, or expect to re-cut them at reception.
- Stacked contactless cards: the reader may fail to pick one. Carry one contactless card in the pocket and keep the rest elsewhere.
- Wireless charging: remove cards before charging on a pad. Heat is the risk here, not magnetism.

The honest summary: wallet cases are a gap in the premium end of the iPhone Duo market. The established premium brands have chosen thinness as their identity, and a card pocket is the opposite of that. That is the gap we build into — but if minimal thickness is what you actually want, buy from them instead and skip this category entirely.
When a wallet case is the wrong purchase
We would rather you buy the right case than any case. Skip the wallet category if:
- You use a magnetic car mount daily. The card pocket occupies the mounting area. Take a plain magnetic case instead.
- Folded thickness is your main concern. A loaded wallet case is the thickest configuration you can put on a Duo. Look at thin cases.
- You carry more than four cards. No phone wallet replaces a real wallet at that point; you will end up carrying both.

How many cards fit in an iPhone Duo wallet case?
Two to three comfortably. Four is possible but takes the folded device to roughly 17 mm, and past that the pocket loses grip on the cards. We recommend carrying two: the point of the accessory is to replace the wallet in your pocket, not to relocate it.
Will a wallet case stop the iPhone Duo closing properly?
Not if the cards sit on the outer panel, which is where all three of our wallet cases put them. It will if the case places cards on an inner face — some folio designs adapted from other foldables do this. Load the case with your cards and check that the halves meet with no gap along the fold edge.
Do magnets in a wallet case damage credit cards?
